Rising 6th Grade Information

Rising 6th Grade Information

  • How do I register my child?

Registration information can be found on the Hoover City Schools website: Click here.

    How are parent/teacher conferences held?

Parent conferences are usually held during a teacher’s planning period or before and after school. A conference can be held with your child’s team of teachers or just one teacher you may need to speak with. If you’d like to request a conference, please get in touch with your child’s teacher via email or Parent Square.

If my child is struggling, whom do I contact?

Contact your child’s teacher first. At the beginning of the year, you will receive your student’s PowerSchool login to monitor grades. You can also contact our 6th-grade counselor, Mrs. Greek, who can provide information about testing, intervention, and working with your child to improve their study skills.

How do I check out or excuse an absence?

Checkouts: Only parents, guardians, or people designated in PowerSchool may check out students. A picture ID is required. All checkouts will be made through the front office.

Excuses: Within 3 days of an absence, students must submit a signed note from a parent or doctor’s excuse with the reason for the absence and date of the absence. The note must include a signature. Excuses may be emailed smsattendance@hoover.k12.al.us.

    All About Intervention

    • Intervention is a system to help you if you are struggling in an academic class.
    • Students are placed in Intervention classes based on their progress in academic classes and their iReady/test scores.
    • Take advantage of this time and you’re guaranteed to succeed!
  • All students in 6th grade take physical education. Most students are able to choose one other elective. Students may choose from beginning band, choir, or an elective rotation. The elective rotation is assigned randomly and includes 4 of the 5 following classes: Family Living, Theater, Art, Computer Science, and Spanish.

  • Sports

Students in 6th grade are not eligible to participate in school-sanctioned sports per Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) guidelines. However, students can participate in tryouts held each spring for 7th grade.
